Chapter 1 - Northern Spirit School [Part 1]

Hello readers, here is the first half of chapter 1.  These chapters are really long, so I might post half chapters in order to keep a more regular posting schedule.  I am also interested in finding out what people think about the names of things.  I feel extremely inadequate sometimes when trying to figure out places and people.  You will see what I mean soon enough.  Most importantly....enjoy!

Chapter 1 - Northern Spirit Courtyard

The scorching sun was a flame.  As burning rays of sunlight poured down from the sky all the surrounding water was evaporated away, the willows drooped down and their leaves were wilted making them look weak and sickly.

In that same place, among the willow trees there was a bright spot revealing an open space where several hundred figures quietly sat with their legs crossed.  It was a group of young girls who all had a serious look on their faces with their eyes closed.  They lightly breathed through their nose, with their breathing occurring according to some kind of rhythm.  Following an exhalation their whole body would emit an extremely faint light.

A quiet breeze blew and caused their clothing to float making an unexpectedly magnificent sight.

In front of this group of several hundred figures was a stone seat on top of a stone platform where there was another figure calmly sitting in the same manner.  Both of his hands rested in front of him with his fingers crossed and his eyes were closed as if he had entered into a meditative trance.

This person also looked young, having soft and slightly disheveled hair and his somewhat thin face still appeared innocent, which seemed to give people a fairly comfortable feeling.

At that moment, rays of light could be seen blossoming around his body and within that light it seemed as if there was a mystical energy that was continually rushing into his body.

Among the group of figures, several of the youngsters suddenly opened their eyes and when they saw the rays of light surrounding the body of the young boy they couldn’t help but lick their lips as an expression of envy and admiration appeared on their faces.  Soon after the peaceful quiet was shattered by their whispering voices.

“Brother Mu is awesome, we are still at the beginning stage of feeling the heaven and earth’s energy, but he has already broken through to the energy movement stage, he certainly deserves to be our East House’s number one disciple.”

Ha, that goes without saying, not only Eastern House, but I don’t think anyone that is the same age from the entire Northern Spirit School can compare to Brother Mu”

The young boy on the platform was already familiar with his reputation, after all he could hear everyone whispering and couldn’t help smiling to himself.  A low whisper continued, “Brother Mu was even chosen to join the ‘Spirit Path’ people.  Within our Northern Spirit Territory, Brother Mu is definitely the most famous.  Don’t you already know that joining the ‘spirit path’ isn’t normal?  Because of that our Northern Spirit Territory caused quite an uproar.  The people who come from there are all enrolled in one of the five great schools.”

“The five great schools?”  Many in the group became excited when they heard this dazzling name.  All of them couldn’t help swallowing reflexively, since it was regarded as the ultimate dream residing in their young hearts, however the selection criteria for the five great schools was extremely strict.  Being able to enter there meant that person was probably a genius.  If someone were able to enter they would have an extremely promising future.

Brother Mu is very powerful....but I heard some other people saying that he was the first person, after joining the ‘spirit path’ to have been expelled before it was even over...”

The person who just spoke quietly hesitated before quickly adding, “We all know about Brother Mu’s ability, even if everyone gathered at the ‘spirit path’ are all geniuses, Brother Mu is in no way inferior to them.  It must have been due to unfair treatment that he was expelled!”

Many of the young girls looked at each other, this was something that was no secret in the Northern Spirit School, let alone the entire Northern Spirit Territory.  They all felt a wave of regret, while at the same time they were very curious, because they wanted to know what happened.  The remarkable achievement of Brother Mu made them a bit proud, yet he was unexpected expelled from the “spirit path”.

One of the youngsters adjusted her gray robe and curled her lip in disgust, “Hmph! Of course someone from the ‘spirit path’ was jealous of Brother Mu, so they had to force him out.  It doesn’t matter though, with Brother Mu’s capability it is only a matter of time before they realize how talented he is and he will enter into the five great schools

Many of them understood that even if they said that Brother Mu was extremely gifted, it wasn’t that easy to get into the five great schools.  Afterall, even though he was in the spirit path, he only practiced for a year and he would be an evildoer compared the geniuses who went on to complete the spirit path, which would only make things wore.

BANG!

While they were still talking a piece of wood flew from the stone platform and struck that youngster wearing the gray robe in the forehead accompanied by a gentle scolding, “Su Ling, do you think I am just a decoration?  Do you think I won’t inform Master Mo, who will make sure to keep you here in Eastern House practicing during the next vacation?”

Many of the girls quickly looked up and saw that the youngster practicing on the platform had already opened his eyes.  His eyes were pitch black similar to the night sky, and filled with abundant spiritual energy.  On his face was soft smile radiating like sunshine, completing the picture.  Looking at his young face, some would consider him handsome.

It is easy to see, this person is clearly exceptional

“Hey hey!  Don’t do that brother Mu Chen, I was still hoping I could go back to Le Le.  If my dad knew I did such embarrassing things he would probably beat me to death.”  laughed the girl in the gray robe while rubbing her forehead.

The other girls burst out in giggles as well, creating a lively atmosphere.

“You know your father is strict, in three months if you cannot advance into the energy movement stage, he will still beat you half to death” laughed Mu Chen as he shook his head.

“How can it be so easy to advance into the spirit movement stage?  I’m not like Brother Mu who can casually come and go from the spirit path whenever he feels like it.” spat out Su Ling as she quickly stuck out her tongue.  This scandal was already well known across the Northern Spirit Territory, and Mu Chen himself didn’t try to avoid the topic, even though being expelled wasn’t something he could be proud of.

Mu Chen smiled when he heard what she said, as he looked up to gaze at a spot on the tree with a complex expression on his face.

Ah, the spirit path...

I wonder how those guys are doing now, have they finished practicing?  If so, then perhaps they have already gone on to join the five great schools.

And also, her...

Mu Chen pursed his lips, whenever she crossed his mind it was burdened as if it were pierced by a dark blade.  She had a beautiful figure with a cold yet lovely dark complexion.

The beautiful image of a woman pulsed in his mind, her dazzling silver hair was as bright as the stars as it danced through the air.
